Iron Man Commission. 2009. Gouache and acrylic on paper, 7.5 x 11".

This is pretty much every piece of Iron Man art I have ever made, presented in (roughly) chronological order. I know I did one other black and white piece in San Diego a number of years back, but I failed to get a picture. I'll live. In other news, Iron Man 2 was friggin' awesome!

  2. Love 'em all. Hey Paolo, I've got a dumb question. What color do you use for the reflective gold? Is it gold? Or a combo of yellow/brown? I'm struggling a little bit on a painting I'm working on. Thanks!

  3. Thank you, Paulo. It's my pleasure!

Sam, it's a yellow/brown combo, specifically burnt umber, followed by a light yellow ochre wash (I'm talking mainly about the watercolored pieces). Just remember that the shinier the metal you're trying to simulate, the sharper the contrast. The best thing you can do is paint a trophy from life until it's committed to memory.

  5. I always love more your pencilled work, than the painted one.

  6. Thanks, Maw!

Thanks, Paolo. I'm starting to prefer pencils and inks to the painted work as well... though it's nice to come back to every once in a while.

  7. Awesome. I figured it would be a yellow/brown combo. Thank you for the advice! You rock.
