This issue hits shelves today! (Been a while, right?) Full details at the Dark Horse site. I used the Hellboy bust I sculpted in Sculptris and lit the scene in Photoshop. I threw in some simple geometric shapes to help get a handle on the lighting situation. The DC-3/C-47 model is one I found online. I took some video of the painting process, but, knowing me, it will be years before I get around to posting it.
Wrong gun! (I used my 1:6 scale revolver) |

Really nice. How big was the final piece?
ReplyDelete13x19"
DeleteHow did you contrast the lights and shadows with gouache and how was the initial painting rendered? Thanks this piece looks glorious!!
ReplyDeleteNot sure I understand what you're asking about the gouache. Are you asking what I do first? As for the color study, it was done in Photoshop using brushes from KyleBrush.com.
DeleteLol YES! I enjoy seeing you become the "model" for your pieces. You did the head in a 3D software?
ReplyDeleteYep — Sculptris (a free program by Pixologic, link above).
DeleteYeah I'm asking how you start off
ReplyDeleteand how you render the final piece.
Check out the "Painting Process" link at the top for a full explanation. Also, check out my channel on YouTube, link in the sidebar. Thanks!
DeleteGouache and acrylic do u mean acryla gouache? Also which medium do u prever for painting quality wise Gouache ,Oils or Acryla gouache? Not about ur deadline usefulness just the quality of work:)
ReplyDeleteYep, Acryla Gouache. I use it when I need impasto effects, bold strokes, or just bright white. Although I don't often do it, you can also glaze over it once dry.
DeleteWhat do you think the benefits of Gouache and Acryla gouache? Also the benefits for oil?which one would you use if you don't have anyour deadlines
ReplyDeleteAt the beginning of my career, I would've said oil. But with gouache, you can do anything oil can do if you're willing to practice. It has the added benefit of drying quickly, and scanning easily, 2 things that make it absolutely indispensable. For me, oil's main advantage is the rich darks you can achieve, but that's only if you're looking at the original.
