Indestructible Hulk #9 Cover. 2013.
Ink(ed by Joe Rivera) with digital color on Marvel board, 11 × 17.25″.
|
Indestructible Hulk #9 is out today, by
Mark Waid and
Matteo Scalera! (
Preview here.) I provided the cover to this and the next issue, which means I not only got the chance to draw the Hulk, but Daredevil once again. Reference-wise, this necessitated my best flexing Hulk face, and my trusty (paper) billy club. Not a bad day for referencing. You can see a time-lapse of me sculpting my digital Hulk maquette on
YouTube.

ReplyDeleteI've been sitting on those pics for a while, just waiting to share. Glad you like.
DeleteI'm sure this has been asked before, but how do you set up for pencils? Is that a faint blue-line printout on Bristol that you do the finished pencils on?
ReplyDeletePrecisely. It's a cyan print of the digital composite to the right of it. For more complicated compositions with background, it will include other colors for the perspective grid.
DeleteAfter looking at this cover multiple times over the past few weeks ive only now just realized that the wrist strap on Matt Murdock's cane is supposed to resembles a halo over his head.
ReplyDeleteThats what i love about your covers, there's always something that i never noticed at first glance, i still say that Daredevil "reading" the rivets on Dr Dooms face plate on your cover of DD#14 is one of the most genius comic book covers of all time.
Thanks for noticing, Wayne! (That's my favorite part about this cover.)
DeleteAWESOME cover. As usual.
ReplyDeleteWhat about a book with all of your covers?
Thanks, Francesco! That would be nice, but I don't think Marvel has any immediate plans for it. Maybe someday...
